mini STUDY is an opportunity for a 3-day deep dive into release technique with Acts of Matter Founder and Artistic Director Rebecca Lemme. 

Classes will include floor work, improvisation, combinations geared towards encouraging greater facility with inversion work and transitions in and out of the floor, and culminating choreographic phrase work encouraging individual artistry and interpretation. We will also incorporate some of the signature dialogue opportunities from Focused Study. A lot of class material will be repeated from day-to-day to enable participants to dive deeper into the embodiment of the movement, deepen the trust in their bodies, and get out of their heads.

  • About focused study

    This workshop is grounded in the values and the mission of Acts of Matter: to bring diverse people together to enhance each others’ experience in life and in dance through sharing, listening, and learning.

    We are excited to work with mature individuals with various ranges of experience who have an interest in a deep dive over three days into investigation, self-reflection, rigor, joy, and community. Most (but not all) applicants will have a shared goal of pursuing dance professionally. Mature movers are encouraged to apply.

    Rebecca Lemme will be leading the majority of the experiences and will be joined by a diverse collection of esteemed guest faculty.

    Offerings have included the following forms and explorations: Dialogue, Release, Ballet, Process, Partnering, Somatics, Ilan Lev Method, House, Vogue, Jazz Funk, Twerking, Sound Healing, Afro-Latin practice, Improvisation, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, Dancehall, Creation, and various hands-on bodywork.
